Airports Council International (ACI) World today releases the annual World Airport Traffic Forecasts (WATF) 2023¬–2052 dataset, showing the Top 20 markets for air travel demand among other key air traffic findings.

May 2023 traffic data shows continued strong growth in air travel demand.

Total traffic in May 2023 (measured in revenue passenger kilometers or RPKs) rose 39.1% compared to May 2022. Globally, traffic is now at 96.1% of May 2019 (pre-pandemic) levels.

The pilgrimage, scheduled to take place in Saudi Arabia from 26 June to 1 July, is anticipated to draw two million participants¹. It is expected that the number of pilgrims travelling to Saudi Arabia will resume to its pre-pandemic levels as restrictions on age and travel are lifted.

Total traffic in April 2023 (measured in revenue passenger kilometers or RPKs) rose 45.8% compared to April 2022. Globally, traffic is now at 90.5% of pre-Covid levels. At 81.3%, industry load factor was only 1.8 percentage points below pre-pandemic level.
