In this iPMI Global Digital Nomads Insurance In Focus article, iPMI report author and market analyst Ian Youngman, takes a look at news about an update on visas for digital nomads in Italy.

It has taken two years but finally the government has agreed and issued the rules for digital nomads.

Digital nomad visas

  • For the Digital Nomad Visa eligible non-EU nationals include those who carry out highly qualified activities through the use of technological tools that allow them to work remotely, autonomously or for a company based outside the Italian territory.
  • It is for highly specialised workers from countries outside the European Union who can move their place of work to Italy and obtain a special residence permit to carry out smart working activities.
  • These individuals may be self-employed workers or collaborators/employees of companies that are not resident in Italy.
  • Minimum annual income 28,000 Euros.
  • It is for periods exceeding 90 days.
  • The resident permit is for one year.
  • Extensions may be allowed.
  • They must provide proof of health insurance valid in Italy.
