There are 12,000 digital nomads in Spain, according to the latest official figures.
For 2024 the minimum required income has increased to 31752 euros, but is higher if the nomad brings a spouse and/or children.
- Spain has a digital nomad visa that allows people to stay and work for 12 months with multiple extensions.
- It is for people from non-EU/EFTA/Schengen countries who work remotely for non -Spanish companies.
- Both self-employed freelancers with multiple clients and remote workers employed by a single company outside of Spain are eligible for the visa
- It is only for those exclusively using computer telematics and telecommunication media and systems..
- It is for one year with extension of up to a total of 5 years.
- Spouses, domestic partners, dependent children, and dependent relatives can also receive a visa to stay in Spain if the applicant is approved.
- Only 20% of total income can be from within Spain.
- All years under the digital nomad visa contribute towards the required duration for Spanish nationality or permanent residence.
Spain Digital Nomads Health Insurance Requirements
- Health insurance is required for all.
- Health insurance can be public or private health insurance.
- The health insurance must cover ALL the risks insured by the public health system in Spain.
- The original certificate and a copy must be provided.
- Health insurance must be from an insurance entity authorised to operate in Spain.
